For the opera buffs visiting Jerusalem this summer, the city will be hosting its second annual Jerusalem Opera Festival for an amazing weekend of Opera and musical performances throughout the city.
Jerusalem Opera Festival
Scheduled to take place over June 22-25 just outside the Old City walls, the Israeli Opera will be performing Rigoletto, the famous Italian opera by Giuseppe Verdi.
The story of the duke’s jester and his horrific tragedy comes to life through Verdi’s musical numbers. Watching opera al fresco, under the starry skies of Jerusalem at the Sultan’s Pool in Jerusalem is undoubtedly a unique experiences and is an impressive setting for watching an outdoor opera performance. Jerusalem’s exquisite stage of the Sultan’s Pool is ideal because the open-air amphitheater is surrounded by the city’s thousands of years.

Cinema Paradiso- Films and Opera
For those seeking a more unique opera experience, the second night of the Jerusalem Opera Festival will be a Cinema Paradiso in which the two worlds of opera and film will merge. Stunning clips of modern films that include scenes at the opera will be projected on large screens. During these clips, opera singers will sing live versions of these movie scenes. Movies including, Pretty Woman, Moonstruck, The Fifth Element, Amadeus, A Room with a View, The Godfather 3, A Quantum of Solace, Bend it Like Beckham and many others, will be infused with new meaning as opera soloists will perform live on stage the music which is played in the films.

A Weekend of Opera and Music in Jerusalem
To complete the Jerusalem Opera Festival weekend, a variety of concerts will take place during the weekend in several around the city. Each musical performance will highlight the strength of that location. Liturgical music, vocal music, chamber music and even special musical concerts for children will take place throughout Jerusalem.
